HUGH HAYDEN

Through abstracting ubiquitous objects from their traditional contexts, Hugh Hayden creates new experiences that challenge conventional perceptions.
He manipulates the inherent significance and quality of elements to be recognizable in the resulting artwork but re-contextualize historical and traditional understandings of those materials and the subject matter.
The artworks’ content intentionally functions as a catalyst to instigate and highlight contrasting impressions, but remains neutral letting the viewer form their own, perhaps uncomfortable, interpretation.
Hugh Hayden was born and raised in Dallas, TX.
He received a Bachelor of Architecture, the understandings of which he has re-appropriated at a smaller scale creating sculpture, from Cornell University in 2007.
Following graduation, Hayden won the prestigious Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Travel Fellowship to study food-related architecture, art, and design around the world.
Hayden's artwork has been exhibited both locally and internationally including commissions from Lacoste and Cabinet Magazine.
Hayden is currently a resident of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace Residency and a visiting artist at New York University.
